LTA deregistration and rebates

Before a car can leave Singapore it must be deregistered with the LTA. Timed correctly, deregistration is also how you receive your rebates.

PARF COE

If you've owned a car in Singapore you'll know the LTA doesn't do things by halves. The good news is that exporting a car is something it plans for. The deregistration is done online now, and if the timing is right, sending the car to the UK earns you the same kind of rebate you'd get for scrapping it.

We send every customer a step-by-step guide. This page is the overview.

What deregistering means

Deregistering cancels the car's Singapore registration. From that point it can't be driven on Singapore roads, and the LTA expects it to be disposed of in one of three ways:

  • Scrapped at an LTA-authorised scrapyard
  • Exported out of Singapore, which is where we come in
  • Stored in an Export Processing Zone while it waits to be exported

The LTA's own deregistration page

PARF and COE rebates

Two separate rebates can come back to you when the car is deregistered.

PARF rebate

Based on the Additional Registration Fee paid when the car was first registered. It is only paid while the car is under ten years old. Pass the ten-year mark and the PARF rebate is gone. Cars on COEs from February 2026 onwards get a much lower percentage.

COE rebate

A refund of part of the quota premium, pro-rated to the time left on the COE. Export within two years of registration and it is capped at 80% of the premium paid.

The amounts are the LTA's to work out, not ours, so we never guess at them. Look up your own car on OneMotoring under the rebate enquiry before you decide anything.

Want the detail, including the percentages by age and the 2026 changes? COE, ARF and PARF explained. Or put your registration date into the planner and it'll check the ten-year line for you.

Near the ten-year mark? This is the one to watch. A car deregistered a few weeks before its tenth year can still earn a PARF rebate; a few weeks after, it can't. If yours is close, tell us the date on the quote form and we'll plan backwards from it.

The order to do it in

  1. Get your quote and check your rebate. Together they tell you whether bringing the car is worth it.
  2. Book the shipping with us. We give you a collection date tied to a sailing.
  3. Deregister online with the LTA, close to that collection date, using our guide.
  4. Hand over the car. We collect it and take it to the loading warehouse for the port.
  5. Receive your rebate from the LTA. The UK side carries on without you.

Common mistakes

  • Letting a dealer book it for scrap. If you trade in or sell through an agent, tell them it's being exported before anything is arranged.
  • Deregistering too early. The car can't be driven once it's deregistered, so doing it weeks before collection just leaves you without a car.
  • Forgetting the ten-year line. See above. It's the costliest mistake on the Singapore side.

Questions

Do I still get my PARF rebate if I export the car?

Yes, if the car is under ten years old when it is deregistered. Exporting is one of the ways the LTA accepts a deregistered car being disposed of, alongside scrapping, so the rebate works the same way. Check your figure on OneMotoring.

What is the COE rebate?

If the car is deregistered before its COE runs out, the LTA refunds part of the quota premium, pro-rated to the time left on the COE. For cars exported within two years of registration, the COE rebate is capped at 80% of the quota premium paid.

When should I deregister?

Close to collection, not weeks before. A deregistered car cannot be driven on Singapore roads, and it has to be exported, scrapped or held in an Export Processing Zone. We plan the date around the sailing.

Can I export a car that is more than ten years old?

Yes. You will not receive a PARF rebate, but a car on a renewed COE may still earn a COE rebate. In the UK, a car of ten or more needs an MOT rather than an IVA test.
